Reserved Zone in Rio Nieva Peruvian Yungas ecosystem protection

Located on Amazon and allow greater connectivity between protected natural areas in the area: Alto Mayo Protected Forest, Cordillera de Colan National Sanctuary and Conservation Area Abra Patricia-Alto Nieva

The appointment of the new Rio Nieva Reserved Zone, through the RM 187-2010-MINAM, published yesterday in the official gazette El Peruano, is a significant contribution to the National Forest Conservation, since with their 36.348 hectares extension, contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems such as the Peruvian Yungas, as well as facilitating connectivity between the Cordillera de Colan and the upper basin of May in the department of Amazonas. Located in

Yambrasbamba district, province of Bongará (Amazonas), over three thousand square meters, the Reserved Zone Nieva River is, according to the Master Plan for Protected Natural Areas (DS 016-2009), a priority area for conservation called Nieva River - River Imaza, is also an area of \u200b\u200bconnectivity between protected areas, ANP, in the area: the Alto Mayo Protected Forest, National Shrine Cordillera de Colan and Conservation Area Abra Patricia-Alto Nieva.

This new ANP is important because it concentrates a large number of endemic species and it will form a conservation corridor that will benefit ANP species surrounding it. Reserved Zone Protect Rio Nieva avoid the risk of species loss by degradation and fragmentation of these ecosystems of flora, fauna and environmental services provided by watersheds populations. Notably

Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, represented by their respective Ministries of Environment, are coordinating and working on a tri-national initiative to adapt to climate change in ANP in the Andean Amazon, to support the conservation of ANP, helping to generate benefits local people and to have natural areas that support the process of mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Therefore it is said that the establishment of the Reserved Zone, is closely linked to the National Forest Conservation, promoted by the Environment Ministry and endorsed by President Alan García Pérez at the last General Assembly of the United Nations, held in New York City.

WWF for the promotion of clean technologies climate change skepticism

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF, for its acronym in English) believes that the forthcoming summit on climate change to be held in Cancun does not culminate in a binding global agreement to reduce emissions, but can leave significant progress "deforestation, adaptation" and "technology."

"We must recognize as an international community that we are not in a position to come together and reach a global agreement in Cancun. I think nobody expected that, "said WWF director general, American James Leape said in an interview with Efe.

Leape, who is in Mexico City in the Global Summit on Business and the Environment (B4E), which closes today, stressed the need "for governments to find ways in Cancun to make progress tangible and important, setting a clear direction for future negotiations. "

DEFORESTATION AND CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES
He felt that the expectation of results in the XVI Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP16), to be held from 29 November to 10 December this year in Cancun, will focus on achieving "some important parts agreements for a global agreement such as deforestation, adaptation and access to clean technologies."

"Those would be significant in themselves and a sign for the business world and that governments are facing this issue, "said the activist.

"If governments find ways to reach agreements on these pieces of the puzzle, it will be important to advance the issues and also to restore confidence that they are serious about working together for a solution," he said.

Around possible negotiations in Cancun in relation to the Kyoto Protocol, which set an emissions reduction target of 5.2% in 1997 compared to those in 1990, said it was unlikely that the new post-Kyoto commitments be achieved in the COP16.

however noted that since the treaty expires in 2012, "it is important that governments begin a fijar algunas líneas de cómo van a afrontar el futuro”.

Lo que sí has been heard here and there in one way or another we have to give a price. The question of whether a tax is a system for capping and trading carbon is secondary, "he said.

To Leape "everybody recognizes that markets must receive a clear message that we should be leaving the carbon, and this has to do also with the elimination of the very high subsidies provided fossil fuel industry," he said .

WWF is a non governmental organization working for twenty years and that climate change from a decade ago has a program (Climate Savers) in collaboration with companies which analyzes them how to go beyond reducing global warming emissions and improve energy efficiency.
